Former North Platte Community College coach sues for discrimination

A former North Platte Community College softball coach and faculty member is suing the college on discrimination and retaliation claims.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A former North Platte Community College softball coach and faculty member is suing the college on discrimination and retaliation claims.

According to the lawsuit filed in Lincoln County District Court late last month, Janelle Higgins, who was employed with the college for almost 14 years, is seeking at least $100,000 in lost wages, benefits and money for emotional and reputational harm.

Higgins claims she faced gender bias and retaliation for speaking up about complaints, which includes a sexual assault investigation and false accusations made towards her.

She also claims she was harassed and fired after she complained.

Higgins was let go on Feb. 5, 2024.

The college said they do not comment on pending litigation.
