Laurel-Concord-Coleridge sweeps Oakland-Craig to book a trip to its first State Championship match

LINCOLN - The "Cinderella Story" for C2's #6 seed continues into the title fight as the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears sweep the #7 Oakland-Craig Knights (25-23, 25-17, 25-23).
This match was the third meeting between the two teams this season. The Knights won the first match of the year, while the Bears won a five-set contest in the Sub-District Final just over a week ago.
Oakland-Craig upset Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Thursday evening to get to the semifinals while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge defeated Norfolk Catholic to earn their spot in the Friday afternoon match.
After Oakland-Craig took an early 8-4 lead in the opening set, LCC battled back and fought punch for punch until the final point for the 25-23 win in Set 1.
LCC rolled early in the second set, leading by as many as 11 points. Although Oakland-Craig fought back, the Knights were unable to rally after the early deficit, falling 25-17.
The Knights held a slight lead throughout most of the third set, but the Bears got hot late, taking a 22-19 lead.
Oakland-Craig battled back to tie the match at 23, but two-straight Bears points, including a Tyler Recob ace, gave LCC the win and their first trip to the State Championship as a co-op.
Rena Rasmussen led LCC with 15 kills, followed by Tyler Recob's 11 kills and two aces. Kaida Erickson also had 8 kills in the Bears win.
Oakland-Craig was led by Briar Ray's 22 kills, two aces and two blocks. Hillary Ray finished with 11 kills.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge moves on to the State Championship game on Saturday at 1 PM with the game broadcast on 94.7 (94Rock.fm).
Oakland-Craig will play Yutan for third place in Class C2 Saturday at 3 PM.
