Officials close westbound I-80 near Chappell due to vehicle fire
Officials closed westbound I-80 near Chappell Thursday afternoon as crews responded to a vehicle fire reported around 3 p.m. MST. Deuel County Sheriff Scott DeCoste reported I-80 reopened about 5:35 p.m.

CHAPPELL - A truck fire closed westbound Interstate 80 near Chappell Thursday afternoon, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Westbound I-80 was closed atmilemarker 95 for crews to remove debris and extinguish the fire. It reopened at about 5:30 p.m.
The closure, reported shortly after 3 p.m., affected traffic between mile markers 96 and 27, roughly 10 miles east of Chappell. NDOT said the fire is located near mile marker 88, about two miles east of town.
Emergency crews were on scene, and westbound traffic was being diverted to Highway 30.
Deuel County Sheriff Scott DeCoste said a truck-trailer caught fire. The driver was able to driver to the shoulder of I-80 and disconnect the trailer from the truck.
