Norfolk Council approves plan to build road connecting Meadow Ridge and Legacy Bend neighborhoods

NORFOLK, Neb. — Two neighborhoods in northeast Norfolk will soon be connected.
The Norfolk City Council voted 5-3 on Monday night to give final approval to three related ordinances that allow for the extension of McIntosh Road to connect it to Legacy Drive. The extension will connect the Meadow Ridge and Legacy Bend neighborhoods.
The ordinances passed previously on first and second readings. Discussion at previous meetings centered around possible safety hazards associated with the road connection. People in Legacy Bend urged the council to approve the plan, saying it is a safety problem to only have one access point for their neighborhood. People in Meadow Ridge argued that connecting the roads would lead to speeding drivers and longer wait times to turn onto Benjamin Ave.
The Legacy Bend developer spoke at the previous meeting and committed to starting the next phase of construction on the project, which would include building three more apartment buildings. The neighborhood currently has 185 apartment units and 19 houses.
