Former board member questions Visitor Committee actions

SIDNEY -- Former Cheyenne County Visitors Committee member Hal Enevoldsen questioned the Cheyenne County Commissioners Monday on decisions made about and by the Visitors Committee.
"I've served on this for 20 years. I don't normally just resign from a committee just haphazardly. I always have some pretty good reasons why I do that," Enevoldsen said.
He asked Commissioner Randy Miller what the reasons were for the suspension.
"We didn't suspend any one. We suspended the activities of the committee. So to be clear with you, no one got suspended. The activities of the committee got suspended, so that we could in fact rewrite the bylaws, go through the bylaws, get them more accurate, and so that in more of an attempt for everyone to understand the bylaws. It was very apparent to me that the committee did not understand the bylaws ... including yourself," Miller said to Enevoldsen.
Enevoldsen said he does understand the grants, and that the committee was suspended.
"I sat on this for 20 years. I do understand the grants. I do understand what's legal and what's not legal. We may be a misunderstanding of how that applied. I'd like to have more of a discussion before ... it seems like you're ... 'on Feb. 3, 2025, the Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners voted to temporarily suspend the Cheyenne County Visitors Committee until further notice.' To me, you can say the activities, we were suspended," he said.
Enevoldsen asked to be on the next county commissioner agenda.
Hajek officially submits resignation as County Assessor
The Cheyenne County Commissioners officially accepted the resignation of Jordan Hajek as county assessor. Hajek read her resignation before the commissioners and a crowded room.
"Please accept this letter as my formal resignation as the Cheyenne County Assessor, effective January 1st of January, 2026. I have enjoyed the last six years working in the Assessor's office, and I want to thank everyone who supported me in my journey as the assessor," she said in her resignation letter.
She was selected as the interim county clerk. She said she is confident the assessor's office will continue its professionalism.
The commissioners also signed a resolution declaring November 25 through December 13 as Shop Cheyenne County NE Days.
