OGALLALA - Two longtime staples of the Ogallala community - Valentino’s restaurant and the Ogallala Movie Theatre - closed their doors for good Sunday night.

Owner Dustin Holstein announced the closures Sunday, sharing the news in a Facebook post.

“At the close of business this evening, Valentino’s and the movie theater will be closing for good,” Holstein wrote. “Thank you everyone for your support through the years. Ogallala will always hold a special place in my heart.”

The post quickly drew hundreds of comments from residents expressing sadness, gratitude and nostalgia. Many shared memories of family dinners, date nights and first jobs at the theater.

“That movie theatre is priceless,” one resident wrote. Another commented, “We loved eating at Valentino’s - the best chicken in town.” Others thanked Holstein and his family for their years of service, calling the closures “heartbreaking news” and “a sad day for Ogallala.”

Holstein did not specify the reason for the closures but received an outpouring of support from the community. “Good luck with your new things in your family,” one post read. “We’ll miss you and what you brought to this town.”
