KIMBALL -- Desert Snow is coming to Kimball next year for a 3-day hands-on criminal interdiction workshop at the Kimball Police Department.

Desert Snow is a nationally recognized law enforcement training company that focuses on criminal interdiction.

“The courses teach officers the skills to identify criminal activity, including drug trafficking, stolen vehicles or other serious crimes with an emphasis on drug crime,” said Chief of Police Jose Ruiz.

This is the largest training course the KPD will host so far, having 40 seats available.

Ruiz said he has been coordinating with Desert Snow for almost a year-and-a-half to organize this course for the Panhandle.

“To bring this type of training to the Panhandle is a big deal; there is a huge demand for this course in the region,” Ruiz said. “I hope our officers benefit from the course through continued professional development and strengthening of partnerships with other agencies here in the region.”

He adds that drug crime has been a major issue that the department has been continually working towards combatting.

“We’re not just talking about doing something, we are taking the steps to make an impact through the K9 program and having an officer on the drug taskforce,” Ruiz said.

The course will be held July 13 – 15, 2026 and is open to any law enforcement officer at any agency.
