SIDNEY, Neb. - After weeks of guesses and growing suspense, Rick Leach of Sidney correctly identified the Dickey & Associates Auctioneers Secret Sound Tuesday morning on 987 The Big Boy, claiming the $620 jackpot.

The winning sound? A computer mouse gliding across a mouse pad.

Leach said he had the answer figured out for several days but couldn't get through to the studios because of the busy phone lines.

“I knew it,” he said. “I told you last week.”

The longtime listener said he plans to put his winnings to good use.

“I’m going to use it for travel, food and may stop into NexGen Outfitters,” Leach said. “I’m going deer hunting in the Sandhills next week.”

The October-long contest started with a $100 jackpot on Oct. 6 and grew by $10 with each incorrect guess. Listeners tuned in twice a morning for a chance to be caller nine and take their shot at identifying the mystery sound.

Clues were released throughout the month thanks to Fanny’s Farmhouse, Carpet Comfort Center, Sedgwick County Health Center, Financial Partners, Pedalers Corner and Bug Off Pest Control.

The Big Boy’s Secret Sound contest featured dozens of guesses ranging from “waves” and “train smoke” to “coffee grinder” and “zipper” before Leach cracked it.

A new contests and cash giveaway for November will be announced next week, according to station officials. Full contest rules are available at thebigboy987.com.
