Postseason football brackets: Sidney lands No. 3 seed, will host Pierce to open Class C1 playoffs

SIDNEY, Neb. - Sidney drew the No. 3 seed in the Nebraska School Activities Association Class C1 football bracket released Saturday and will open the postseason at home against No. 14 Pierce on Friday, Oct. 31.
The Red Raiders are placed in the lower half of the bracket. A first-round win would set up a Nov. 7 quarterfinal against the winner of No. 6 Fort Calhoun and No. 11 Gothenburg. Semifinals are slated for Nov. 14, with the championship Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10:15 a.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
Sidney claimed the Class C1-7 District title for the second straight year with 38-14 win over Chadron on Friday.
Top overall seed Wahoo anchors the upper half and meets No. 16 Milford, with No. 9 Mount Michael Benedictine facing No. 8 O’Neill in the same quadrant. The other quarter of the top half features No. 5 Syracuse against No. 12 Omaha Gross Catholic and No. 13 Chadron traveling to No. 4 Ashland-Greenwood.
Opposite Sidney in the lower half, No. 2 Columbus Lakeview opens with No. 15 Boys Town; the winner meets No. 7 Central City or No. 10 Aurora on Nov. 7.
Sidney’s first-round will kickoff at 2 p.m. MDT and air on Cheyenne County Country (1340 AM, 95.7 FM, newschannelnebraska.com and the free NCN app). All rounds through the semifinals are played at the higher seed.
Garden County, Leyton and Potter-Dix earn playoff bids in Class D6
OSHKOSH, Neb. - Three Panhandle teams are headed to the Class D6 postseason.
Undefeated Garden County (8-0) claimed the No. 1 overall seed and will open the playoffs at home Friday, Oct. 31, against No. 16 Crawford (4-4) at 5 p.m. The Eagles, who have outscored opponents by more than 395 points this season. The Eagles and Rams game will air live on 987 The Big Boy (98.7 FM, thebigboy987.com, the free News Channel Nebraska app and on Alexa by saying "Hey Alexa, play 987 The Big Boy).
No. 5 Leyton (7-1) will also open the postseason at home, hosting No. 12 Pawnee City (5-3) in Dalton at 2 p.m. MDT on The Big Boy. The Warriors lone loss this season is the top-seed Eagles.
Potter-Dix (5-3) drew the No. 11 seed and will travel east to face No. 6 Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (6-2) at 3 p.m. MDT. The Coyotes earned their postseason berth after a strong finish that included a 51-0 shutout victory over South Platte in the regular-season finale. The Coyotes first round game will be available on 1043 KIMB (104.3 FM, 1043kimb.com and on the free NCN app).
Quarterfinals are scheduled for Nov. 7, semifinals on Nov. 14, and the Class D6 state championship will be played Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at UNK’s Cope Stadium in Kearney.
Scottsbluff, Gering earn Class B state playoff berths
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Scottsbluff and Gering are both headed to the Class B postseason.
Scottsbluff (8-1) secured the No. 3 seed and will host No. 14 York (5-4) in the opening round Friday, Oct. 31. Across the bracket, Gering (7-2) earned the No. 10 seed and will hit the road to face No. 7 Omaha Skutt Catholic (7-2). Top-seeded Waverly (9-0) leads the 16-team field, with Gretna East (8-1) holding the No. 2 seed.T
The Class B state championship will be played Monday, Nov. 24 at 7:15 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
In Class D1, Bridgeport will host Wausa-Osmond in a second-round matchup on Friday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
