Holgorsen emphasizes comfortability for Raiola in the pocket
LINCOLN, Neb. - Life in the pocket hasn’t been too kind to Huskers quarterback Dylan Raiola during Big Ten play.
Raiola was sacked a program record nine times in Nebraska’s 24-6 loss to Minnesota on Friday, and Head Coach Matt Rhule and Offensive Coordinator Dana Holgorsen made it clear it can’t continue.
Holgorsen didn’t point in any certain direction for blame, but said the unit has to get Raiola more comfortable in the pocket and find ways to get the ball out quicker.
“There were some times they weren’t sacks, but they were hurries because he wasn’t comfortable in the pocket,” Holgorsen said. “He’s got to do a better job int he pocket, I’ve got to get him in better plays that are quicker.”
While Holgorsen didn’t point fingers, nor did Raiola or members of the offensive line. Many have wondered why Raiola doesn’t try to throw the ball away, so when it comes to the risk vs. reward of extending the play and risking the sack vs. taking the lumps and throwing it away, for Holgorsen, it once again, comes to down comfortability in the pocket.
