REYNOLDS, Neb. – One person was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after being ejected from his pickup truck during a two-vehicle crash at a rural intersection west of Fairbury.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened around 3:37 p.m. at the intersection of 709 Road and 559 Avenue, between Reynolds and Gladstone. Deputies arrived to find two pickup trucks with heavy damage.

According to investigators, a 2015 Ford F-150 driven by 33-year-old Quinton Bolejack of Jefferson County was headed east on 709 Road, while a 2022 Ford F-250 driven by 25-year-old Cleavey Young of Spokane, Washington, was traveling north on 559 Avenue. Officials say both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, likely due to visibility being obstructed by standing crops.

The two trucks collided in the intersection. Young’s truck continued into a nearby cornfield and rolled. He was ejected from the vehicle but was up and speaking with first responders when they arrived. Authorities say neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Young was first taken to Jefferson Community Health & Life in Fairbury by Jefferson County Ambulance and later flown by medical helicopter to a Lincoln hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Bolejack suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital transport.

Responding agencies included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Ambulance District #33, Fairbury Rural Fire Department, and Gilead Fire Department. M&D Auto assisted in clearing the scene, which was reopened by 5:15 p.m.

Authorities continue to remind drivers to use caution at rural intersections during harvest season when visibility may be limited by crops.
