Knights' Strong Second Half Secures Big Win Over Thunderbirds

NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Lourdes Central Catholic Knights pulled away in the second half of their battle with Johnson County Central Thunderbirds Friday to grab a 52-20 win, as heard on Otoe County Country.
JCC took a 6-0 lead on a Braiden Nichols touchdown run from seven yards out and just over five minutes left in the opening quarter. LCC responded about two and a half minutes later when Callen Schnitzer hit Hudson Rutt for a 29-yard TD catch and an 8-6 advantage through a quarter of play.
Lourdes started the second quarter scoring with a short Callen Schnitzer TD carry & the two teams would alternate scoring for the rest of the half, leaving the score at 30-20 in favor of the Knights at the break.
The second half saw LCC take control, shutting out the Thunderbirds 22-0 for a 52-20 victory.
Lourdes wound up with a total of 411 yards with 342 of that coming via the ground game, while JCC (unofficially) had 219 yards, but only 24 via the run. The Thunderbirds also committed three turnovers. Dominic Schizas & Simon Bruggeman each had interceptions for the Knights.
The LCC offense saw Callen Schnitzer finish with 28 carries for 172 yards and three scores, while also going 4/6 throwing for 69 yards and a TD. Alec Schnitzer tacked on 18 carries for 143 yards and another three TD's.
Regan Thies threw for two JCC scores in the loss.
The Knights are now 6-1 on the season, while the Thunderbirds slip to 5-2. LCC will visit Johnson-Brock on Thursday for a 7pm kickoff on B103, while JCC wraps up the regular season against H-TR-S at home Thursday.
