Red Raiders Roll on Homecoming, Shut Out Chase County 46-0
SIDNEY – The Class C-1 No. 5 Sidney Red Raiders celebrated Homecoming in dominant fashion Friday night, blanking Chase County 46-0 for their fourth shutout of the season. Sidney improved to 7-0, while the Longhorns dropped to 1-6.
Sidney’s defense was overwhelming once again, holding Chase County to minus 10 yards rushing and just 73 total yards of offense. The Red Raiders’ offense was just as efficient, scoring five touchdowns on only 13 plays from scrimmage — and adding another on defense — all in a wild first quarter.
After losing the coin toss and receiving the opening kickoff, Sidney wasted no time. On the game’s third play, quarterback Alek Doty raced untouched into the end zone from five yards out to cap a quick 58-yard drive. The PAT was blocked, giving Sidney a 6-0 lead with 11:01 remaining in the first quarter.
Just two minutes later, Doty rolled right and connected with tight end Keian Kaiser for a 41-yard touchdown strike to make it 13-0.
Sidney’s kickoff coverage then pinned Chase County deep, and the Longhorns went backward before punting from their own end zone. On Sidney’s next snap, Caleb Lipska took a jet sweep 34 yards to paydirt, extending the lead to 20-0 with 6:30 left in the first.
Things unraveled further for the visitors when a high snap sailed into the end zone and was recovered by outside linebacker Kale Kaiser for a defensive touchdown. The PAT missed, but Sidney was firmly in control at 26-0 with 6:22 to go in the opening period.
Rhys Dorcey powered the next drive, carrying four times for 48 yards and finishing with a 13-yard scoring run to make it 33-0.
Sidney closed out the first-quarter onslaught as Kyle Jaggers broke free around right end for a 42-yard touchdown run with no time left, stretching the lead to 40-0 after the extra point.
With both coaches agreeing to start the 35-point running clock at the beginning of the second quarter, the game’s pace slowed. Sidney’s reserves added one final score before halftime — a 21-yard touchdown pass from Will Gillham to Leair Scott — for the 46-0 halftime margin. Neither team scored in the second half.
Sidney finished with 339 total yards, including 186 on the ground and 153 through the air. Dorcey led the rushing attack with 94 yards on six carries. Doty was perfect through the air, completing 3 of 3 passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Sidney’s defense allowed just four first downs and forced six punts and one turnover on downs.
The Red Raiders hit the road next Friday to face Alliance (3-4), which fell 41-0 at Chadron this week. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
