Park Elementary named National Blue Ribbon School
KEARNEY, Neb. - An elementary school in Central Nebraska is one of only a few in Nebraska recognized this year for academic excellence and student achievement.
Park Elementary in Kearney has been named a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School- one of the highest honors a school can receive from the U.S. Department of Education.
Former principal Chance Waggoner said the nomination came from the Nebraska Department of Education based on the school’s academic performance and efforts to close achievement gaps.
Staff then worked together to complete an extensive application highlighting student growth, school culture, and family partnerships.
“To be recognized as a Blue Ribbon school is just awesome,” said Waggoner. “It truly shows what we do every day for our kids.
Current principal Taylor Peters said the recognition comes after months of collaboration and essay writing from staff.
“We spent time working together as a staff to make sure our answers were top-notch to really show the community how amazing Park Elementary is,” said Peters. “We’re just excited to celebrate with our students and continue the Park legacy.”
Third grade teacher Alexis Pennington said the award validates years of hard work.
“Our staff and students work so hard every single day, and to be recognized for that is a huge deal,” said Pennington.
Park Elementary is among 325 schools nationwide receiving the recognition this year. The U.S. Department of Education honors award recipients at a national ceremony in Washington, D.C
