Chief Deputy Dan Schleusener has officially announced he’s running for Sheriff of Buffalo County.

BUFFALO COUNTY, Neb. - With Buffalo County Sheriff Neil Miller set to retire at the end of his term, the race to replace him is already underway with a notable candidate announcing his candidacy.
Chief Deputy Dan Schleusener has officially announced he’s running for the job.
Schleusener has served with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years, and will run as a Republican in the May 2026 primary.
In a statement, Schleusener said he’s honored to have worked alongside Sheriff Miller and even more honored to have earned his trust and endorsement to lead the department into the future.
He’s received endorsements from Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers, Sheriff Neil Miller and several former local officials.
