LINCOLN, Neb.— The Diocese of Lincoln is limiting a Priest’s assignments after he was accused of sexual abusing a minor three decades ago.

“We are writing to share information about an allegation against Fr. Scott Courtney,” the Diocese said in a September 19 statement. “A woman has come forward alleging that she was sexually abused as a minor in 1993, 32 years ago, when Fr. Courtney was a seminarian in Lincoln, Nebraska.”

The diocese said it immediately reported the allegations to the local authorities and no criminal charges were filed.

An independent investigation was conducted by the diocese which led to the limitation of Courtney’s duties, according to the diocese.

“Bishop Conley has limited Fr. Courtney’s ministerial assignment to providing spiritual support to the retired priests of the Diocese of Lincoln,” the diocese said in a statement.

Courtney has denied the allegations.

Courtney was placed on administrative leave in 2018 from Sacred Heart Parish in Roseland and Assumption Parish in Juniata following an investigation into sexual contact with a woman.
