NORFOLK - Summerland won in all three phases of the game, making big plays on offense, defense and special teams to win going away 49–12 over Lutheran High Northeast Friday night.
What started out as a defensive stalemate in the first quarter got blown open on a Mason Schwager end-around TD and a fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff return, which set up the first of 3 Ethan Kester TDs on the night and a 14–0 Bobcats lead.
Just when Lutheran High looked like they were going to cut the deficit in half, Cash Kester picked off a pass at the goal line and returned it to midfield setting up another TD drive, this time with Austin Mendoza cashing it in from the 1. Another Eagles turnover led to one more Summerland score before the half, this time Mendoza catching one from cash Kester to make it 28–0 at the break.
The Bobcats came out of the locker room the same way they went in, with Ethan Kester scoring on the first two plays from scrimmage after the halftime break. A 60 yard house call was followed by another kickoff return fumble recovery, setting up Summerland at the 3, where Kester took it in again.
Summerland (4–2) heads to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge next Friday, while Lutheran High Northeast (1–5) is at Elkhorn Valley.
