Train crash splits semi-trailer loaded with corn
Driver escapes unharmed after truck pushed 100 feet
SYRACUSE - Syracuse Fire and Rescue was dispatched at 9:15 a.m. today after a collision involving a train and a truck and semi-trailer near the Frontier Cooperative agronomy services facility.
An Otoe County Sheriff’s Office deputy said the train was backing up as the truck was crossing the tracks east of Highway 50 on K road. The railroad boxcar was derailed as the train pushed the truck about 100 feet and tore the semi-trailer in two. The locally-owned trailer was loaded with corn and headed to the cooperative.
The driver was able to exit the truck safely. The Union Pacific is expected to investigate the accident.
