WAYNE, Neb. - A ranch in Northeast Nebraska is helping veterans and anyone in need through the healing powers of horses and other farm animals.

Dreamers Place Ranch in Wayne is open day and night offering therapy by creating personal bonds with horses.

Laura Nelson started dreamers with her family in 2023 and says that creating a bond with a horse is special connection that silences outside distractions.

“when your with a horse you don’t have to worry about anybody telling you anything or anybody anything else they just kinda listen to ya," said Nelson". And that peace that you get when your around the animals there is nothing else that we feel that is more relaxing than that.”

Jack Mathis is a disabled veteran who was told he couldn’t work anymore.

Now he handles horses and works with those in need at dreamers.

Mathis found peace by creating meaning full connections and wants to help others do the same.

“ And we came out and the first thing Laura did is put me in a stall with a horse and said sit down... and I did and that horse came over and buried his head into my chest and I felt the anxiety go away," said Mathis. "And I’ve been coming out here on and off for about two years and I know what this place has done for me and I want to do that for other veterans as well.”

Mathis has created close bonds with Gus the miniature Scottish Highland cow and a horse named Cheyenne who shares the same name as his daughter.

Mathis says he appreciates dreamers ranch and wants to continue to help improve peoples lives just l how he was helped.

“Something good happens you pay it forward, and thats what i do everyday with everyone that comes out here," said Mathis With New people that come out I talk to them I give them a tour and I tell them my story the good, the bad, the ugly. I tell them all of it and then I tell them about how it is now and being able to work with everybody.”

Dreamers Place Ranch is open 24/7 and has 20 different horses.
