Lindsay’s newest place to read and learn now open
LINDSAY, Neb.— Last year, Lindsay Academy students learned in a shed, this year they have a major upgrade.
“So here’s the public library and at some point we are going to have a historical archive of Lindsay as well,” Lindsay Academy Principal and Librarian Kylie Hollatz said.
The library started last year with just the basics, only 300-500 books and a dream.
“I think it’s just a space where the community can come, even if we have an event as a school, we try to get the community in here as much as possible.” Hollatz said, “I think Lindsay is such a tight knit community already, so creating a building where everybody can come together just made sense.”
The school is also finishing up construction on the new gym as well as the wellness center set to open next week.
The library gives all 47 students the opportunity to branch out beyond their small community.
“To me it’s an opportunity to learn and I feel like a library anymore isn’t just a place to archive books, it’s a place for people to gather and be creative,” Hollatz said.
While the library is not open to the public during school hours, to keep the kids safe, it will be open from 4-6 P.M. Mondays and Wednesdays and 9-11:30 A.M. every other Saturday.
