Norfolk launches multilingual signage initiative
NORFOLK, Neb. -- Spearheaded by Norfolk's HR Specialist and Language Navigator Gustavo Magana and his staff, a city-wide initiative is underway to introduce multilingual signs throughout Norfolk.
Thanks to a hometown grant from T-Mobile, Norfolk is one of 25 communities selected from 1,100 submissions.
Norfolk received a $50,000 check to improve accessibility for those who may not speak or understand fluent English.
The grant will also enable first responders to communicate using electronic devices, eliminating the need for on-site translators.
City officials say the grant will initially fund Spanish signage throughout the city's parks, rivers and streets.
Over time, the initiative will expand to include multilingual signs, ensuring all residents and visitors can easily navigate Norfolk.
