Hastings defense pitches second half shutout to top Beatrice
HASTINGS, Neb. – The Hastings Tigers made just enough plays on both sides of the ball to win a battle of the defenses against Beatrice on Friday night.
The Tigers and Orangemen both entered their week five game looking for the first win of the season.
Hastings' offense came out hot in the first quarter scoring touchdowns on their first two drives.
WR Brennan Criss caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Brody Dreher to open the scoring in the 1st quarter, before Dreher ran for a 2-yard score in the final seconds of the quarter.
The Orangemen defense then stepped up, grabbing their first of three interceptions of the game from Jay Jackson.
Beatrice turned it into seven points one a 1-yard QB sneak by Merrick Johnson to make it 14-7.
That remained the score at halftime, and until the end of the game with the defenses making stop after stop.
Despite forcing four turnovers on defense, Beatrice fell to 0-5, while Hastings improved to 1-4.
The Tigers have now won four straight games against the Orangemen.
