MADISON COUNTY, Neb. — A Northeast Nebraska woman convicted in connection with the quadruple homicide in Laurel has withdrawn her motion for a new trial.

Carrie Jones, the wife of Jason Jones, who was convicted of killing four people and setting their homes on fire, has withdrawn her motion.

Court documents show that Jones' defense team had filed a motion claiming her right to a fair trial was violated. While the documents do not list specific violations, Nebraska law allows for a new trial on grounds such as insufficient evidence, newly discovered evidence, errors of law, or jury misconduct.

Jones was convicted on all counts, including first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and being an accessory to a felony, for aiding and abetting her husband. Her murder charge stems from the death of Gene Twiford in August 2022. Prosecutors argued that she encouraged her husband to commit the murder.

Carrie Jones is currently held at the Madison County Jail awaiting sentencing, with bail set at one million dollars.
