NORFOLK, Neb. — The Norfolk City Council has approved a resolution for a sweeping community improvement program, set to address overdue infrastructure needs. The plan, which occurs once every six years, allocates roughly $35 million to projects, including upgrades to drainage systems and various street improvements.

Steven Rames, the Public Works Director and City Engineer for Norfolk, highlighted the plan's focus on pedestrian safety. Improvements will include updated lighting and signage, integral components of major infrastructure projects. Rames emphasized the financial benefits of the program, noting that the $2 million allocated for planning alone alleviates pressure on the city's budget. "It's easy for me to find that 10% match on 2 million," Rames stated, "It's hard for me to find $2 million outside of the budget to plug into those things."
