Beth E. Fiegenschuh closes book on 31 years as county clerk

SIDNEY -- Cheyenne County Clerk Beth E. Fiegenschuh announced her retirement today.

She read her letter of retirement letter into public record during this morning's County Commissioners meeting.

"Please accept this letter as my formal resignation as Cheyenne County Clerk, Register of Deeds and Election Commissioner effective January 2, 2026. This was a very difficult decision for me to make and not without trepidation," she said in reading her letter.

She said the 30-plus years in the clerk's office has been a joy.

"I have genuinely enjoyed the last 31 years working for the taxpayers of
Cheyenne County. It has been an incredible journey. I am very proud of the work that has been done for Cheyenne County. There have been many challenges and I believe the decisions made were in the best interest of the County," she said.

She said she has made many friendships in her 30-plus years; friendships that will continue into her retirement. She said she will work to make the transition as smooth as possible. Now that the announcement is made and her resignation is accepted, the emotions start setting in.

"It's kind of mixed feelings. I said it was kind of a tough decision, not one made lightly. But now that it's been made, it's been submitted and accepted it's kind of an exciting time, looking forward to it," she said.

Her retirement is effective Jan. 2, 2026.
