LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is enhancing efforts of providing watchable wildlife opportunities and nature-based experiences in Nebraska.

Game and Parks is now accepting grant applications for watchable wildlife grants. The goal is to build appreciation and stewardship for natural resources through practical experience. Individuals, nonprofit, governmental, and for-profit entities are encouraged and eligible to apply.

Funds are provided through the Wildlife Conservation Fund, which is 100% donated. 

Watchable Wildlife Biologist Meghan Thompson says opportunities such as these are important for the future of wildlife across the state. 

"When people see and view wildlife, they care more about it, they understand it and want to protect it through those efforts," Thompson said. "Mostly, these grants promote stewardship and appreciation for our natural resources in the state."

Potential projects include wildlife viewing blinds or decks, pollinator gardens, binoculars and field guides for visitors, and wildlife viewing events.

Thompson says  individuals, nonprofit, governmental, and for-profit entities are encouraged and eligible to apply.

Applications are being accepted through Oct. 3 and the maximum award is $6,000 per proposal.
