LINCOLN, Neb - Less than two days away from the season opener at Arrowhead, Matt Rhule and the Huskers expect a hometown feel in Kansas City.

Ahead of Thursday’s kickoff with Cincinnati, Rhule and the Huskers handed out 10 Blackshirts and have fully turned their attention to the Bearcats.

“I don’t consider it neutral site,” Rhule said. “Arrowhead seems like part of our DNA… This feels like a home game lite. If not more… We’re more excited as a fan base to see this team for the first time.”

Rhule provided clarity to the Huskers kicking situation, saying Charlotte transfer Kyle Cunanan will handle place kicking, while kickoff duties continue to be battled out between Tristan Alvano and John Hohl. Meanwhile, linebacker Vincent Shavers should be good to go for Thursday after a hamstring injury.

As Rhule and the Huskers lock in, he says the goal is to take the week one matchu one play at a time.

“Attack each play,” Rhule said. “Not worry about the score, not worry abut how we’re playing… Deal with how we have to play and adjust how we have to play in the fourth quarter. We’ve worked on it for a long time, worked on it for three years, so would like to see it come to fruition now where we just go out there and lay with a ruthless mindset.”

Nebraska and Cincinnati kick off at 8:00 p.m. CT on Thursday.
