LINCOLN, Neb. - It’s tough to get a more difficult early season test than taking on the third ranked team in the country, but Nebraska took that exam on Friday night and passes with flying colors.

Top-ranked Nebraska defeated #4 Pitt in Four Sets (25-22, 25-11, 20-25, 25-23) at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday night.

“I said to Andi (Jackson) at one point ‘this feels like a national championship’,” Junior Harper Murray said. “I feel like we owe that to our fans. They show out every single game and that’s exactly what we expected… To feel their energy here, and at Bob, it truly helps us.”

“Just to see Husker fans continue to elevate the sport of volleyball, go from the coliseum, where they were the noise, to come here, where they embrace the technology… It says a lot about our fans,” Head Coach Dani Busboom-Kelly said. “These are some of the same fans that went tot he coliseum for 20 years.”

The Huskers hit .224 as a team, including .429 in a dominating 25-11 second set. Harper Murray would lead the Huskers with 15 kills.

“The end of games is where I play my best,” Murray said. “I feel like that’s been a trend for me the last few years and that’s a trend I want to continue so I can help them when they need me most.”

The Huskers are back at it for game two of the AVCA First Serve Showcase on Sunday taking on #6 Stanford.
