Severe weather expected Monday night across the state
NEBRASKA — Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across Nebraska this evening and continue into the overnight hours. The National Weather Service has placed much of the state under a risk for severe weather with Central Nebraska expected to get hit the hardest. The primary threats being damaging straight-line winds and large hail.
According to the National Weather Service, storm development is most likely between 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., following a quiet and mostly dry afternoon. Conditions are expected to rapidly change after sunset as instability increases across the region.
The main hazards tonight include wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail up to two inches in diameter, heavy rainfall, and a low risk for tornadoes.
Most storms are expected to be fast-moving, however, brief periods of heavy rain may still occur.
Some non-severe storms could linger into early Wednesday morning before the system moves out of the area. Following the storm system, conditions are expected to dry out midweek, with a significant warm-up on the way.
