KIMBALL -- Kimball Health Services is displaying student artwork as part of a new collaboration with Kimball Public Schools.

This collaboration began a few months ago to provide a platform for students to showcase their work.

KHS Human Resources Director Erin Jefferis is married to Art Teacher Mark Jefferis, so it was a natural connection.

Kerry Ferguson says, “It’s a very positive thing happening in our community ... These kids put in a lot of time and effort for putting their displays together and we feel the public should have a good opportunity to have a look.”

Mark says he tries to switch out the artwork every quarter.

“[I choose the artwork] that shows the greatest understanding of the concept I was trying to get them to learn, and I try to spread the opportunity throughout the students,” he said.

The artwork is displayed in the north hallway of the main clinic entrance.

“I’m really appreciative of the space,” Mark says. “Anytime we can get displays for art out in the community and give the opportunity for kids’ artwork to be seen outside of school and by members of the community is great.”

He adds that the kids are really appreciative of the opportunity as well and are amazed when they’re told that their artwork will be displayed at the hospital.

“I don’t think they realize quite how much it means to them until I say, ‘hey some of your work is going to be displayed here,’ Mark said.

The artwork currently displayed in the hospital is mostly by fifth and seventh graders because the high school students will already have their own art show this month.
