Axtell's oratorio society keeps tradition alive with Palm Sunday performance

AXTELL, Neb. - A Palm Sunday tradition continues as the Axtell Oratorio Society prepares for their annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah.
The concert was started in 1958 by Rodney Wendell with a group of singers and small string Orchestra.
Since his passing in 2020, Wendell's daughter Andrea has taken on the role of conductor for the group.
This year’s performance features a chorus of around 60 singers, four accomplished soloists, and a 25-piece orchestra.
The annual concert has grown into a multigenerational celebration of music and faith.
The community event brings together musicians from across the region which helps preserves the tradition that spans over six decades.
The group will be performing April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney.
