OGALLALA, Neb. — Road conditions rapidly deteriorated in western Nebraska as a rain-snow mix changed to snow across the Sandhills and northern portions of the state. The National Weather Service said occasional periods of heavy snow, mainly north of Highway 2, were causing hazardous travel with poor visibility and slick, slush-covered roads.

With roads becoming slick, multiple crashes were reported early Saturday afternoon on Interstate 80.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation reported a vehicle accident involving a semi-tractor-trailer at approximately 11:15 a.m. One lane was blocked between mile marker 89 and 92, 32 miles east of Sidney.

A reported multi-vehicle crash was also reported between MM 153 and MM 150 - 24 miles east of Ogallala, blocking a lane.

A non-injury accident, where an NDOT sign was taken out, was reported at mile marker 1 on I-76 just inside the Nebraska border.

Ambulance service was requested for a single vehicle rollover accident near mile marker 103 on eastbound I-80 west of Big Springs. Reports indicated at least five people inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.
