LINCOLN, Neb. -It’s normally known as the home of Nebraska Basketball and various concerts, but on Friday, Pinnacle Bank Arena is being transformed into a playground for some of the worlds greatest cowboys and wranglers.

Arena conversion was done Friday afternoon, ahead of this weekend’s Professional Bull Riding event.

“Production load in is done one day before the event, it’s when we totally convert the arena,” Kevin McCoy of PBR Production said. “Here at the Pinnacle Bank Arena we’re starting on bare concrete floor, we bring in all of our rigging, our video equipment, the audio/vidoe and lights… After all the rigging is up I the air, we bring all the dirt in.”

Kevin McCoy is in his tenth season working production for PBR and says PBA will require about 3400 cubic yards of dirt for Saturday nights event. On Friday, a steady stream of side dumpers brought in the dirt, dumped it, and a skid steer smoothed it over. On show day, the bulls arrive, and are run down to their chutes and holding areas.

“It’s a whole lot of paper works and learning codes and knowing stock contractors,” McCoy said. “Learning his colors and his horns and his coat pattern, the markings on him… It’s an incredible process to watch.”

The crew of about 40 that puts on each show travels across the country weekend to weekend, and McCoy says every venue is unique. Even after a decade, the process never ceases to amaze him.

“To watch it transform from the basketball court, or whatever concert was going on, to us, it’s always an incredible process.”

PBR’s event is set for this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. central at PBA.
