Scottsbluff man arrested after high-speed chase, armed standoff

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — A Scottsbluff man is in custody following a high-speed pursuit and standoff with law enforcement that ended early Friday morning, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
Tyreese Monroe, 21, was arrested around 2:10 a.m. after troopers say he led authorities on a chase exceeding 100 miles per hour through Scotts Bluff County and later barricaded himself inside a home near Lake Minatare Road and County Road 24.
The incident began at approximately 11:15 p.m. Thursday when a Nebraska State Patrol trooper attempted a traffic stop on a speeding Mercury Grand Marquis on Lake Minatare Road. Monroe allegedly fled westbound, turned south on Highway 71, and continued through Scottsbluff on Highway 26 before heading north on county roads and stopping at a residence.
Monroe and a male passenger fled into the home and refused to exit. A female inside the residence was also unable to leave. Authorities from the Nebraska State Patrol, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsbluff Police Department and Gering Police Department responded. Crisis negotiators were called to the scene.
Investigators say Monroe was armed and prevented the others from exiting. After about an hour, the male passenger was allowed to leave. Negotiators ultimately convinced Monroe to surrender peacefully. The female was unharmed and released shortly after. Two firearms were recovered from the home.
Monroe faces multiple charges including flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, kidnapping and an outstanding warrant from Texas. He's being held at the Scotts Bluff County Jail.
