BEATRICE – Mostly light amounts of snow fell across southeast Nebraska….but what fell was pushed by winds normally attributed to severe thunderstorms.

One to three inches of snow fell in some southeast areas, but the snow was pushed by 60-to-70-mile-per-hour wind gusts, creating white-out conditions and drifting in many areas.   In Beatrice, northwest wind gusts reached 55-miles-per-hour at around 8 o’clock, Tuesday night.

Much of Nebraska was in a blizzard warning, but that was replaced by a high wind warning overnight for eastern and southern areas of the state.  Some wind damage was reported at Fairbury.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning Wednesday for areas of Iowa.

The highest snowfall totals reported by observers ranged from four to five inches near Anselmo and Atkinson. Three inches of snow was reported at Burchard and Bennington.

The top wind gust recorded…..was 70-miles-per hour near Julian and near Kearney.  In Kansas a wind gust of 83-miles-per-hour was reported west of Horace…in the far western part of the state.
