Weather service issues winter storm watch for northern Nebraska Panhandle
ALLIANCE, Neb. - A new winter storm is set to impact the region beginning late Wednesday night, with heavy snow and gusty winds expected across parts of the Nebraska panhandle and eastern Wyoming, according to the National Weather Service.
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Dawes, Box Butte, Sheridan and Sioux counties in Nebraska, along with Goshen County in Wyoming. Forecasters predict snow accumulations of 2 to 7 inches, with the heaviest totals expected near and north of Highway 20 and in the mountain ranges.
The storm is expected to bring hazardous travel conditions, with snowfall potentially impacting the Thursday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could cause blowing and drifting snow, especially west of Interstate 25.
The system marks another round of winter weather for the region after recent systems brought strong winds and cooler temperatures. Forecasters advise residents to stay updated on the latest weather alerts and prepare for potentially difficult driving conditions.
The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect through late Thursday night.
Meanwhile in eastern Nebraska, snow, rain and wind created blizzard conditions Tuesday night ahead of the high school girls state basketball tournament, closing roads and forcing officials to recommend no travel from Norfolk to Lincoln and Omaha to Beatrice.
