BEATRICE – Special Olympic athletes are keeping up their winning ways. Friday night, the Beatrice Special Olympics "Orange Crush" team took on the Beatrice Police "Good Guys", in basketball at the Beatrice Middle School Gym.


Special Olympics players showed off their dribbling and shooting skills and teamwork…..in three-on-three and full-court five-on-five games.


University of Nebraska Volleyball Middle Blocker Rebekah Allick attended….taking photos with Special Olympic athletes, giving autographs and passing out hugs.

Heather Cullison said this was the tenth year for the annual scrimmage between Beatrice Police and Beatrice Special Olympics athletes. She said the athletes enjoy talking a little smack with the officers before the friendly competition…and there are other events on the schedule for Special Olympics.


"So we've got tonight and then Sunday, we have the pickle ball tournament that the YMCA's putting on for us as a fundraiser for our flag football team. At the end of March, we will be going to Nashville to play in a national flag football tournament, at the Nissan NFL Stadium."


Beatrice Police officer Courtney Brauch says the annual event is so much fun, and something the officers look forward to every year.


Silent auction items were available for people to place bids on…..to raise support for Special Olympics.
The Special Olympics basketball players have reeled off a string of victories over the ten years of the event.
