Kimball beats Morrill to advance to sub-district championship

The #2 Kimball Longhorns boys basketball team advanced to the C2-10 sub-district championship game with a win over #3 Morrill on Tuesday night.
The longhorns got off to a slow start, allowing the lions to lead through most of the first half. Thanks to the under the basket work of senior Kyler Lusche and sophomore Greg Bingham, the longhorns were able to stay in contention and take the lead late in the second quarter. They went to halftime leading 26 to 24.
In the second half, Morrill came back thanks to seniors Ryder Green and Ashwin Pittman. Pittman, the leading scorer on the season for the lions was limited in the second half after picking up four fouls in the first half. He made his time count with three three pointers in the second half to keep Morrill close through the third quarter.
In the final set, Kimball pulled away thanks in part to the aggressive play of Ryker Behrend who took matters into his own hands to keep putting points on the board for a team that had seen its fair share of misses in the first half. The longhorns won 60-47.
Prior to the Kimball game, #1 Perkins County had beat #5 Hershey to earn their spot in the sub-district title game. Kimball and Perkins County will face-off Thursday night at 6:30 pm. That game will be carried live on 104.3 KIMB, 1043kimb.com and the free News Channel Nebraska app.
