WINNEBAGO, Neb. --  A 49-year-old woman faces being sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder on the Winnebago Reservation.

A jury found Michelle Lee Marr, of Winnebago, guilty of second-degree murder as well as tampering with documents or evidence.

Marr's federal trial lasted five days in Omaha. She faces a max sentence of life in prison for the murder charge, and a max of 20 years for the tampering charge.

The charges come from a murder that law enforcement said happened March 12, 2022.

Marr had contacted Winnebago EMS reporting the victim was not waking up and she requested an ambulance to come to her home.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, but ended up being flown to Sioux City due to the severity of his injuries.

The medical team in Sioux City found the victim had brain trauma as well as swelling. According to court documents, nurses noted that there was a good amount of makeup covering bruising on the victims face. They also noted bruises on his body.

The victim died the next day from his injuries.

According the the autopsy, the victim's cause of death was blunt force trauma, and they ruled it a homicide.

Court documents said the injuries were consistent with inflicted trauma rather than the result of a fall.

Marr had told law enforcement she was sleeping from 5 p.m. March 11, 2022 until she found the victim the next day.

It was found that her social media and phone evidence proved otherwise.

The court reported witnesses, during the trial, saying they had seen her physically assault the victim before.

Marr's sentencing will be on June 5, 2025 at 10 a.m. in Omaha before Judge Brian C. Buescher.

This case was investigated by the FBI.
