SIDNEY, Neb. — Winter weather continues to impact schools and services across the Nebraska Panhandle and northeastern Colorado, prompting multiple delays and closures for Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning, which remains in effect until 11 a.m. MST Thursday. Forecasters warn of wind chills as low as 35 degrees below zero, along with bands of moderate to heavy snowfall expected Tuesday evening, primarily along the Interstate 80 corridor. New snow accumulations of one to three inches are still possible, especially in northeast Colorado.

Officials urge residents to take extreme caution while traveling, dress in warm layers, and limit time outdoors due to the life-threatening cold temperatures. The weather service warns bitterly cold temperatures will remain in place through Thursday.

Superintendent Andrew Farber announced Sidney Public Schools will operate on a 10 a.m. late start for all PK-12 students. Buses will run on a delayed schedule, and all morning activities are canceled.

“The safety and well-being of our students, staff and families remain our top priority,” Farber said. “We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate this winter weather together.”

Sidney is one of many districts adjusting their schedules in response to the dangerous conditions. View the updated list here
