VALENTINE, Neb. - Two 30-year-old women from South Dakota were arrested on Feb. 11 for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in Valentine, according to the Valentine Police Department’s weekly update. The stop occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m.

The arrests come just weeks after three other South Dakota residents were charged with drug offenses in Valentine. On Jan. 29, police reported discovering methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a separate traffic stop. A day earlier, on Jan. 28, the Cherry County Sheriff's Office seized more than six pounds of meth following a traffic stop along Highway 20.

The latest Nebraska Drug Threat Assessment by the National Drug Intelligence Center identifies meth as a major threat to the state, citing its widespread availability and the serious physical and environmental dangers linked to its use and production.

In the Valentine Police Department’s weekly report, police also noted the arrest of a 27-year-old South Dakota woman for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree. The arrest happened on Feb. 13 at 11:20 p.m. after officers responded to a domestic disturbance on North Valentine Street.

During the week of Feb. 8-15, Valentine officers responded to 52 calls for service, including:

-5 welfare checks

-2 disturbances

-3 animal complaints

-2 assaults

-1 truancy complaint
