GOSHEN COUTNY, Wyo. - In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Wyoming State Trooper Parker Smith was dispatched to a severe vehicle accident on Wednesday morning, only to discover upon arrival that the victims were his own family.
The crash involved the family's minivan carrying his wife, Aby, and their two young sons. While Aby and their 4-year-old son, PJ, sustained minor injuries, 2-year-old Christian suffered critical injuries, including a collapsed lung and multiple fractures. He was airlifted to a hospital in Scottsbluff, Neb., before being transferred to Children's Hospital Colorado for advanced care.
Christian remains on a ventilator, and his recovery will require intensive and ongoing medical attention. The family faces significant challenges, balancing care for PJ at home and supporting Christian in the hospital, leading to expenses for lodging, meals and travel.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol Association has established a fund to assist the Smith family during this difficult time. Donations can be made through their official website.
