Undefeated Sipp, program record eight Adams Central girls headed to state wrestling championships
HASTINGS, Neb. – A program record eight Adams Central Girls wrestlers are headed to the state championships behind their undefeated defending state champion.
Kayden Sipp is a Junior, and is making her third appearance at the state championships after posting a perfect 36-0 record in the regular season.
But this time, she’ll by joined by seven other teammates who are making their first appearances at state.
"It feels really good with seven of my teammates coming with me this year," said Sipp. "We're all really excited and we've practicing really hard especially this past week, just ready to dominate at state."
Dominate at state is exactly what Sipp has done the past two years with a 3rd place finish her Freshman year, and a state wrestling championship title at 140 pounds last year.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, it’ll be the first time girls wrestlers will get their own state championships without sharing it with the boys. That’s something that first-year Head Coach Teran Boyer is excited to lead the girls to.
"It's time for them to get the spotlight they deserve. They're competing hard, I think they deserve that spotlight," said Boyer. "A lot of them haven't wrestled is something this big before, so I want to see them go compete, have fun, don't be scared of the atmosphere, do your thing, stay consistent to our technique and culture, and go have fun and compete."
The Patriots have no seniors on their roster this year, and Sipp will be the guide to the seven new faces at state.
She says she's confident she won’t be the only one standing on the podium this year.
"I'd like to see them win matches, and hopefully we can have some other placers," said Sipp. "With Khloe (Wiseman), she has a good draw to make it to the finals, and maybe even win it with me. I'm excited to watch her, she's done so good this year."
In addition to Sipp and Wiseman, Alexa Rogers, Ashlin George, Emalee Poore, Zeniah Baca, Nevaeha Sorensen, and Jennifer Lopez will be the eight Adams Central representatives in Omaha.
The Girls State Wrestling Championships will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha
