Congratulations to the 26 athletes from a total of nine local schools who will be representing their squads and the greater Southeast Nebraska area in the 2025 NSAA Girls Wrestling State Championship next week in Omaha!
A rapidly growing sport in the high school and college level, especially across the greater Midwest, girls wrestling will take center stage at the CHI Health Center in Omaha starting next Tuesday, February 18 at 4 PM. There will then be wrestling action all day on Wednesday starting at 9 AM, and concluding with the championship bouts at 6:30.
Schools are subdivided into two classes for girls wrestling in Nebraska (A and B) with a total of 14 weight classes contested in each class. In other words, 28 individual state champions will be crowned at next week's event, which athletes qualified for by placing fourth or better in their district final tournament over the weekend at different host sites across the state.
Among the nine squads representing the greater Southeast Nebraska area, Crete leads the way with six total state qualifiers in Class A, headlined by freshman Charlotte Sebaaly, who was the champion at 145 in the district hosted by Crete this Saturday. Beatrice will also send four athletes to the Class A field, including a pair of district champions: longtime standout Morgan Maschmann (125) and freshman Aubrey Johnson (105). Seward junior Lauren Frihauf will be one of the favorites in the lightest weight class.
Johnson County Central paces the pack with four total qualifiers in Class B, and they will certainly be a crew to be reckoned with at state: of their five district qualifiers, three finished as district champions, and they're all in different grade levels and weight classes (senior Jocelyn Prado, 100; junior Alejandra Reyes, 105; and sophomore Haylee Trew, 110). Fairbury will send three athletes to state, led by senior Addison Marschman, who placed second at district at the highest weight class, while Fillmore Central senior Angelina Schademann will be a top contender after finishing first in her district in the lowest weight class.
The full list of 2025 girls wrestling state tournament qualifiers, sorted alphabetically by school, from schools in Southeast Nebraska is below. We'll have plenty of coverage from the event next week here on News Channel Nebraska, as well as hourly updates with the latest results airing throughout the week on Ol' Red 99.5 and KWBE.
