Multi-county chase ends near West Point

WEST POINT, Neb. -- Authorities in northeast Nebraska were involved in a multi-county pursuit early Monday morning.
Around 2 a.m. the pursuit started in O'Neill and the Stanton County Sheriff's Office became involved around 4 a.m.
Law enforcement said that the fleeing vehicle, driven by 28-year-old Tyler Kocian of West Point, had led them through Holt, Antelope and Pierce counties where contact with the fleeing vehicle was lost multiple times.
He was again seen before entering Norfolk.
Law enforcement tried to flatten the tires, but the vehicle was able to avoid them by driving into yards.
Kocian then fled east into Stanton County on Highway 275/Omaha Ave, and at this time it was reported the Kocian rammed an SCSO patrol unit spinning it out.
SCSO said they continued to pursue Kocian alongside a Madison County Sheriff’s unit, heading east on Highway 275 where they tried to spike the vehicle again. This attempt near Pilger was also unsuccessful.
Kocian then fled into Cuming County and at the city limits for West Point, law enforcement were able to successfully spike the vehicle, causing him to lose a front tire.
He continued to flee east on Highway 275, and was almost stopped when a semi truck driver tried to block the highway. Kocian passed the semi trailer and continued east into Dodge County on Highway 275.
He ended up losing another tire and turned south on Highway 91 and entered Washington County.
Law enforcement said they pursuit continued on Highway 91 into Blair, where Kocian was finally stopped and taken into custody at gunpoint.
Kocian was booked in Washington County Jail. He was taken into custody by Stanton County Sheriff’s Office with help from Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Blair Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol and Beemer Police Department.
SCSO said the pursuit started in O’Neill following an alleged theft in the town. The pursuit involved several agencies across northeast Nebraska.
Kocian was charged in Stanton County for speeding, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, assault on a police officer, use of a weapon to commit a felony, criminal mischief, and terroristic threats.
These don’t include the charges that Kocian faces with the other counties that were involved.
There were no injuries reported during this pursuit.
