SCOTTSBLUFF – For the second straight game, the Class B number 8 Sidney Lady Raiders had to come from behind to secure a win over a Western Conference foe. Friday at home over Gering and Saturday on the road at Scottsbluff High School.

Neither team could find any offense in the first quarter as each team could muster only one point midway through the period. The scoring didn’t increase much through the remainder of the quarter with the Bearcats leading 6-3 after one period.

From there, Sidney outscored Scottsbluff in the remaining three quarters, although the Bearcats led 16-15 at intermission. The Lady Raiders opened up a double-digit advantage in the second half and held on for a 43-33 win.

Kierra Schrader paced the Lady Raiders with 17 points while Kayla Westby added eight points in the win. Nini Gurrola led the Bearcats with 13 points.

For the second time in a week, the Class C-1 number 8 Sidney Red Raiders tipped off against the Class B number 9 Bearcats in Scottsbluff, this time at Scottsbluff High School. And for the second time in a week the Bearcats proved too difficult a matchup for the Red Raiders.

Sidney got off to a good start as Reid Fiscus and Alek Doty hit early three pointers as the Red Raiders jumped out to an 11-6 advantage over midway through the opening period. But the Bearcats took their first lead 12-11 with 2:29 remaining and outscored Sidney 14-4 to close out the quarter to take a 20-15 advantage into the second.

The Bearcats took control of the game after that hitting 9 of 17 shots in the second period, including three of four from outside the arc, to go to the locker room at intermission leading 43-26. Scottsbluff didn’t take their foot off the gas in the second half, shooting 65% from the floor in the third quarter while building a 35-point lead as the Red Raiders fell to Scottsbluff. 86-56.

Keian Kaiser paced Sidney with 16 points while Reid Fiscus chipped in 11 for Sidney. The Bearcats were led by Nate Kelly with 22 points, Tre Boswell added 20, and Rylee Meininger chipped in 19 points.

Sidney travels to Chadron on Friday, February 14th to face the Cardinals in double-header action.
