The Kimball girls basketball team upset Bayard in the opening round of the Western Trails Conference on Thursday night. The #6 longhorns defeated the #3 tigers 38-25.
After a defensive first quarter where Bayard's first point and four of six of Kimball's first points came off of foul shots, the longhorns were able to get an offense going and went to halftime leading 14-10.
The second half was all longhorns, led by sophomore Faith Bohac who played well under the basket bringing rebounds down at both ends of the court and putting up points. She left the game with an injury late in the game, but not before she saw her sister JaLeigh put up three consecutive layups to pull away from the tigers.
The victory puts the longhorns in Friday's WTC semi-final match-up against #2 Morrill. That game will be at 3:30 pm at WNCC in Scottsbluff. It will air live on 104.3 KIMB along with the longhorns boys teams first game of the tournament at 5:00 pm.
