KIMBALL -- The District Court docket on Tuesday included sentencings for assault and possession charges, while another defendant facing theft charges received a sentencing date.

Teresa Gonzalez, 49, of Scottsbluff pled no contest in a previous court hearing to Class 3A Felony terroristic threats, Class 1 Misdemeanor domestic assault in the 3rd degree, and Class 1 Misdemeanor attempt of possession of a controlled substance.

In July 2023, Gonzalez and her spouse had an altercation in their motel room at First Interstate Inn located in Kimball where she stabbed him in the abdomen.

According to the affidavit, he stated that she was under the influence of meth and marijuana when she stabbed him, and it was because she thought he was cheating on her.

He did not give a statement to the police that night because “Teresa had threatened to poke his eyes out and have him deported,” the affidavit stated.

Gonzalez had also consented to a search of her motel room, in which officers located several knives, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Gonzalez said in court, “I apologize for what I’ve done to the community and everyone around me; I ask that you take that into consideration.”

Judge Derek Weimer sentenced Gonzalez to 36 months of intensive supervised probation and 14 days’ time served.

Before delivering the sentencing, Judge Weimer said: “This particular case is troubling to the court ... This was a crime of violence that resulted in someone going to the hospital. It is of considerable concern to me when people resort to violence. Probation in this case is an act of generosity, and I'll extend it, but I want you to be clear how tight of a leash you will be on.”

Forty-three-year-old Manuel Vargas of Colorado pled no contest in a previous court hearing to Class 4 Felony attempted possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and Class 1 Misdemeanor attempted possession of a controlled substance.

Judge Weimer sentenced Vargas to 17 days’ time served and a $200-fine plus court costs.

Twenty-nine-year-old Cody Green of Kimball pled guilty to Class 4 Felonies theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

On Dec. 4, The Kimball County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen camper trailer. Upon further investigation, the stolen trailer was recovered, which resulted in Green’s arrest.

In court Tuesday afternoon, Green's attorney Stacy Bach requested a PR bond to give Green a chance to find employment and prove himself to the court.

County attorney Mark Kovarik had no objections, and Judge Weimer granted the PR bond with two added conditions of submitting to a drug test before his release and checking in with the sheriff’s office three times per week.

Green’s sentencing hearing is set for March 4.
