During our giveaway period over the holidays for viewers of News Channel Nebraska, our two winners were both from south central Nebraska. How little we knew in the moment about the complex layers involved.

“I wonder what Patricia is going to say when she gets a load of this," Jessie Havenridge said.

“It was pretty exciting that I won that ($1000),” Patricia Youngmark said. “I didn’t hear about it until later that evening (because) we didn’t have the TV on.”

“The winner of $1,000 - whoa - might as well be neighbors with Jessie! (Havenridge)”

Jessie lives in Franklin and she was the first thousand dollar winner. Patricia lives in Wilcox, 30 minutes away.

“We’re also distantly related," said Youngmark.

They became cousins through marriage, to be exact. Not only are the two loosely related, Patricia was reminded of another time when she scored big through television.

“Same month 20 years ago, a friend of mine went to California and we were on the Price is Right," Youngmark said.

“I remember they told us that it’s going to be crazy loud," Youngmark said. "If your name is on the board, go on down. First name up there was Patricia Youngmark, and I thought to myself, ‘How crazy is that? There’s two Patricia Youngmarks out here in California."

“So I didn’t go down. I just sat there for a little while and then they started pushing me down there.”

“Come up here now,” said Bob Barker, the host of the Price is Right. “I want to get you in this good light. I want both of us to look as good as we can.”

“Okay,” said a breathless Youngmark.

“Now, Patricia, where do you live?” Barker asked. Responding to the lack of a response from Youngmark, Barker quipped, “Now the questions will get easier as I go along here.”

Youngmark’s appearance got her playing the game Shopping Spree, where she had to pick from four items and choose the three going over a designated price. She was down to two.

“Over here!” Youngmark pointed and exclaimed.

“The banjo,” clarified Barker. “It must be $1,888 or more. How much is it?” After the model flipped the price, Barker exclaimed, “$2,139. You’ve won them all!”

The new found cash could parlay into something else.

“Maybe we’ll take this money and go out one more time (to the Price is Right),” Youngmark pondered.

For one more chance.

“And tell me now, Patricia, are you having fun?”

“Oh yeah!”

“She’s having fun, too! And we’ll be back with another contestant after these words.”
