Gering girls, Sedgwick County/Fleming boys win team titles at Mitchell

MITCHELL, Neb. – The Gering girls and Sedgwick County/Fleming boys claimed team titles Saturday at the Mitchell High School Wrestling Tournament.
Gering won the girls team title with 133 points, led by Meredith Zlomke (135), who pinned Mitchell’s Macie Vallejo for the title. Avalina Stoner (100) of Mitchell pinned Sedgwick County/Fleming’s Lily Torres in 1:37. Bridgeport’s Elizabeth Menke (120) dominated with a 19-3 technical fall over Gering’s Aaliyah Chavez. Chase County’s Peyton Owens (140) and unbeaten Hayley Rusher (155) won their finals by fall, while Sidney’s Saphira Whitley (170) needed just 41 seconds to win gold.
Sedgwick County/Fleming totaled 236.5 points to win the boys, outpacing Mitchell (156) and Sidney (132.5). Champions included Mario Ortiz (138), Scotty Engle (144) and Owen Harris (150). Mitchell’s Gavin Cheek (132) stayed unbeaten at 36-0, pinning Morrill’s Bryant Zimmerman. Yovanni Jimenez (106) won by first-period fall. Sidney’s Patrick McCartney (190) secured a 22-5 technical fall, while teammates Zech Roggasch (175) and Cayson Boltjes (215) also won gold. Bridgeport's Daxton Malcolm (157) and Mitchell’s Wyatt Blomekamp (285) also won individual titles.
